The bear paintings of the 'Bears & Birds' show, was inspired by a black bear that visited Black Mountain Ranch where Rosie and her husband Dan live 10 miles north west of Lander. Choco, as Rosie calls the black bear, visited the ranch in the fall of 2016. Choco watched from across the North Fork of the
Popo Agie River and almost seemed to pose for the camera.
The bird paintings in the show is Rosie's love of birds and painting them. Birds always seem to fly into Rosie's paintings.

Fur and Feathers Exhibition
Lander Bake Shop
Lander Bake Shop at 259 Main Street in Lander, Wyoming is hosting a solo show "Fur and Feathers" by artist Rosie Ratigan. This exhibition included four large oil bison paintings, sand hill cranes and several bird paintings. The exhibition dates are February 1 - 29, 2016. The exhibition opening with artist attending is Saturday, February 13, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
My "Fur & Feathers" show was inspired by a photography class I attended at the Lander Art Center a couple of years ago. During the class we took a field trip to the Raynold's buffalo ranch in Sinks Canyon near Lander, Wyoming. May and the late Dave Raynolds graciously took us in the back of their flat bed truck into the middle of their bison herd! What a thrill for all the photography students. Fortunately I took many great photographs of their bison and that was the inspiration for the "fur" part of my "Fur & Feathers" show.
The second part of my "Fur & Feathers" show was inspired by my love for birds. Birds are my favorite subject with their beauty and innocence, from diminutive song birds to larger birds and birds of prey. I have found that in loving what I paint, my paintings are truly better and come from my heart.
