Buntings Migrating over the Wind River Mountains

I'm thrilled and honored to share that my painting, 'Buntings Migrating over the Wind River Mountains' was juried and accepted into the 'Above the Clouds: Art of the Alpine' exhibition at the National Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson Hole. The exhibition is on display June 25 - September 18, 2022 in the Wapiti Gallery.
The inspiration for this painting was when I learned that Buntings migrate at night. I participated in the University of Wyoming - 'Art of Hybridization' project funded by a U.W. Biodiversity Institute grant. The Art of Hybridization was a project that is found at the intersection of science and art, with the goal to provide a new insight and understanding into the prevalence and importance of hybridization and speciation in the natural world. During this 18 month project I painted 18 oil paintings, 9 studies and 9 larger paintings. This project was both inspirational and challenging for me as an artist. The triptych is on permanent display at the University of Wyoming Biodiversity Institute and will be used as an interactive teaching tool. It was an arduous task that I am forever grateful for. I was honored to be chosen as the artist to participate in this important research opportunity!
